Mercedes Unimog U1000 (170BHP) LEZ Exempt
Snow plough and gritter capable.
I have for sale my cherished 1980 U1000AG Unimog. I have owned this truck for about 5 years, and it has been nothing more than an off road toy. I have added considered and useful modifications to the vehicle, all of which are removable if the next owner sees fit! These include the front ‘nudge’ bar, the roll-over bars, the rear ground anchor, the TWIN hydraulic Werner winches. I have added the wide track wheels and larger bar tread tyres, these pull relentlessly in deep mud, yet have acceptable road manners. This has increased the vehicles top speed to around 58 mph, and the turbo charged engine pulls it beautifully. The Unimog has been maintained by myself, with over-frequent oil changes, transmission oil changes and portal gearbox maintenance. It has had recent fluid changes, all filters, brake pads, brand new battery, shock absorbers, clutch slave cylinder and more. I have a comprehensive set of receipts to prove. The brakes work perfectly, the truck drives very well on and off-road, and is comfortable to drive, even on a long run. It is an AG spec truck, so has the additional benefits of the 3 way tipper bed, the hydraulic rear 3 point linkage, 2 circuit 280 bar hydraulics, front and rear 2 speed PTOs. It is the single clutch model. The cab has had a completely new floor and wheel arch set fitted to the driver’s side just over a year ago using genuine Mercedes panels to the factory joins. It had suffered from a poor repair in the past. The cab still has a very small amount of corrosion on the passenger side. The cab has new front wide track wheel arches fitted, including a decent powder coat, and polyurethane load liner applied to the tyre side. The rear bed has had the spider replaced, and the bed deck is fresh 3mm steel. This has been properly coated with black Protectakote rubberised bed liner. There is a small Van Vault lockable box bolted to the steel bed for security of recovery gear/lunch box etc! The Mog has a small weep from the steering box, and has had it from my ownership. The seal is available separately from a rebuild kit if you so choose. The steering itself is tight and steers well. The speedo cable is currently defective, and I will try to address this before sale.
This vehicle is registered agricultural and is road tax exempt, MOT exempt, and LEZ exempt. It returns 15mpg.
Please do not make the mistake of comparing this vehicle to many of the rusty,tired old Mogs out there. If you are in any doubt, please go and see what £12k+the dreaded VAT will actually buy you. There is no VAT on this sale.
Engine:
5675cc turbo diesel.170 bhp. Approx 4000 hours. Starts beautifully, runs like a Mercedes OM 352 should. No excessive smoke, no heavy black smoke under boost. Pulls smoothly and has huge torque from tickover. Uprated and reconditioned injector pump fitted 2 years ago. Turbo kit fitted 1 year ago, using genuine Mercedes parts.
Transmission:
Standard Mercedes 16 speed. (8 gears+ 8 working gears: all gears rated for full torque). 16 reverse gears. Part time 4x4, with 4x4 on the fly, air operated. Air operated diff-locks front and rear. Air operated, on the fly at any speed. Transmission shifts seamlessly, difflocks and 4x4 function perfectly.
Wheels/Tyres:
405/70/20 AG bar tread tyres.These are wider than standard and allow the vehicle flotation abilities on deeper mire. TVS Eurogrip. These are 50% worn, and probably have a good 2 years life left in them. Please note that these are the correct speed and load rating for a Unimog.
Uprated widetrack rims, for increased stability and decreased turning radius.

3 seat cab painted satin black. Additional boost gauge and EGT gauge. 2 door. Leather driver’s seat and 2 seat bench, with all seatbelts. Genuine 2xDIN overhead console, as fitted to the later U3/4/5000 etc. This contains a new Midland 80 channel DIN CB, and an Alpine Ipod/CD/Tuner headunit, channelled through 2x JBL 6” component speakers. Please note the Ipad mount is not included with the sale. Bespoke sound deadening kit.
